Costa Blanca with Kids — The Complete Family Guide

Two of Spain's biggest theme parks, a dolphinarium, three serious water parks, ferry rides to a tiny island, dozens of shallow Blue Flag beaches, ice-cream on every corner and almost guaranteed sunshine. The Costa Blanca is one of the easiest family holidays in Europe — here's how to plan it.

Why the Costa Blanca works so well with kids

Distances are short, the climate is forgiving (320+ days of sun, mild winters), and almost everything is built around outdoor family life. Restaurants welcome children at any hour, beaches have lifeguards and shallow shelves, towns have playgrounds on the promenade, and the big attractions cluster within a 30-minute drive of Benidorm — meaning one base can cover a week of day trips with no long car journeys.

Healthcare is excellent, tap water is safe in all coastal towns, and pharmacies stock everything you'd find at home. Most resorts have apartments with kitchens, washing machines and pools — the default holiday format for Spanish and northern-European families.

Best family bases

Choose where you sleep based on what you most want from the holiday. Benidorm is unbeatable for attraction-density and English-speaking infrastructure. Jávea/Moraira are calmer and prettier. Torrevieja/Orihuela Costa offer huge resort complexes with private pools at lower prices.

  • Benidorm — every theme/water park within 15 min; tram down the coast; family-resort hotels with kids' clubs.
  • Albir & Altea — quieter neighbour of Benidorm; flat promenade perfect for prams; easy day trips to parks.
  • Moraira & Jávea — sandy bays, low-rise feel, more European-village atmosphere; great for older kids who like snorkelling.
  • Torrevieja & Orihuela Costa — large self-catering complexes, golf, salt-lake flamingos, Aquopolis Torrevieja nearby.
  • Dénia — ferry to Ibiza/Formentera for a day, castle, family-friendly Las Marinas beaches.
One car, one base

You don't need to move hotels. Anywhere between Dénia and Torrevieja puts every major attraction within a 60-minute drive on the AP-7 / N-332.

Rainy day & cooler-month ideas

Even on the Costa Blanca it rains a few days a year, and January–February can be too cool for the beach. Backup plans are everywhere.

  • MARQ archaeological museum (Alicante) — interactive, brilliant for 6–12-year-olds
  • Volvo Ocean Race Museum & port aquarium, Alicante
  • Castillo de Santa Bárbara — lift up the cliff inside the mountain
  • Cuevas de Canelobre (Busot) — vast cathedral-like cave
  • Indoor karting, bowling and trampoline parks in Benidorm, Alicante and Elche
  • Valor chocolate factory & museum in Villajoyosa
