Welcome to Albir

Albir (officially L'Albir, part of Alfaz del Pi) is the Costa Blanca's most walkable resort — a low-rise, pedestrian-friendly enclave built around a long palm-lined promenade. Its flat layout, Scandinavian community and Mediterranean climate make it a perennial favourite for retirees, families and active second-home owners who want Benidorm's services without its high-rise intensity.

Who it's ideal for

  • Retirees prioritising walkability and accessibility
  • Nordic and Northern European expats
  • Families wanting safety and gentle pace
  • Long-stay winter residents (October–April)

History & heritage

Albir grew from a small fishing and agricultural settlement on the bay between Altea and Benidorm. The discovery of Roman villa remains in the area dates the settlement back two millennia. From the 1970s it developed as a low-rise residential resort, with a strong Norwegian community establishing itself around the Sjømannskirken (Norwegian Seamen's Church).

Lifestyle

Slow, walkable and outdoor — life happens on the Paseo de las Estrellas (a 1 km marble-paved seafront promenade), at pavement cafés, in the Sierra Helada Natural Park, and on the pebble beach. The flat terrain and abundance of lifts make it especially popular with older retirees and anyone with reduced mobility.
