Why pros train here

Every January and February the world's WorldTour teams — Jumbo-Visma, INEOS, Movistar, UAE — descend on the Costa Blanca for pre-season camps. The reasons are simple: reliable 15–20°C winter temperatures, dry roads, a stack of 5–15 km mountain passes within 30 minutes of the coast, and quiet inland villages where a coffee stop costs €1.50.

The pro hubs are Calpe (the historic centre, with Hotel Diamante Beach and Suitopía full of bikes from December to March), Altea (Sha Wellness and Meliá), and Dénia (Hotel Denia Marriott). All three put you within ten minutes of the climbs.

Bike hire, shops and guided rides

Calpe has the densest concentration of bike-rental shops in Spain. Top-tier carbon road bikes (Pinarello, Cervélo, Specialized) rent for €45–€70 a day; gravel and e-bikes from €30. Major rental operators include Bike Cafe Calpe, Top Bikes Calpe, Sportive Breaks and Eat Sleep Cycle. Most offer multi-day discounts, GPS files, and guided rides for €40–€60 per person.

Spanish law requires drivers to leave a minimum of 1.5 m when overtaking cyclists, and on most Costa Blanca climbs they do. Lights front and back are legal requirements, even in daylight, on inter-urban roads. Use them.
