Retire in Alfaz del Pi — Residential Calm with Albir on the Doorstep

Alfaz del Pi is the larger municipality that contains Albir. Retiring here means a quieter, more residential life on the slopes above the Mediterranean — with international clubs, the Norwegian school, the Foieta cultural centre and the Albir promenade five minutes away.

Why retirees choose Alfaz del Pi

Alfaz is one of the most international municipalities in Spain — over 100 nationalities, with Norwegians, British, Dutch and Belgians forming the largest groups. The municipality runs proper integration services in multiple languages, which is unusual on the coast.

The vibe is residential rather than touristic: leafy urbanisations spread over the hills behind Albir, the L'Alfàs town centre with its weekly market, and easy walking access down to the beach. The N-332 splits the municipality from Albir, but most retirees do the trip on foot or by short car ride.

Where to live

  • Old town (L'Alfàs centre): traditional Spanish village, weekly market, walkable.
  • Foia Blanca / Escandinavia: large Nordic community, villas with pools, quiet.
  • Carbonera / El Cautivador: closer to Albir, walking distance to the promenade.
  • Romeral: hillside views over the bay, larger plots.

Healthcare & community

The Alfaz health centre handles primary care for both Alfaz and Albir. For hospital care, Hospital IMED Levante (Benidorm) is 10 minutes by car and Hospital Marina Baixa (Villajoyosa) about 15 minutes.

The Foieta cultural centre runs concerts, theatre, films and exhibitions in multiple languages year-round. Casa de Cultura hosts the Nordic cinema festival. Pickleball, padel, walking and bridge clubs are all easy to join.

Trade-offs

Not for everyone

Alfaz is residential — you'll want a car for shopping and getting around the urbanisations, even though Albir is walkable. If you want a town centre with daily life out the front door, choose Albir or Altea instead.
