Moving to Spain

Internet, Mobile & Utilities in Spain

Setting up internet, mobile and utilities in Spain as an expat — fibre providers, best SIM cards, electricity, water and gas. Real costs on the Costa Blanca for 2026.

Spain has some of the best and cheapest fibre internet in Europe — gigabit speeds reach even small coastal villages. Mobile data is cheap too. Here's how to get connected on day one.

Home internet

Fibre (FTTH) is widely available at 300/600/1000 Mbps. Main providers: Movistar (largest network), Vodafone, Orange and budget MVNOs like Lowi, O2 and Digi. Expect €25–€45/month for fibre + mobile bundles.

Mobile SIMs

Pay-as-you-go SIM cards are easy to get with a passport.

  • Lowi: best value (~€7/month for 50 GB)
  • Digi: cheap fibre + mobile bundles
  • Vodafone / Orange / Movistar: premium with full coverage
  • Holafly / Airalo eSIMs: for short-term arrivals before NIE

Electricity & water

Electricity is contracted with Iberdrola, Endesa, Naturgy or independents (Octopus, Holaluz). Average villa €120–€220/month; apartment €60–€120. Water is municipal — €25–€60/month depending on usage and pool.

Setting it all up

You'll need an NIE, a Spanish bank account and the previous occupant's CUPS number (electricity meter ID). Most providers transfer the contract; new contracts take 1–4 weeks for fibre and 1–3 days for utilities.
