Wellness Investment on the Costa Blanca

The wellness economy on the Costa Blanca is growing 11–14% per year, well ahead of the wider Spanish economy. Spas, yoga studios, retreats, boutique gyms and integrative-health clinics ride three structural waves: ageing affluent retirees, year-round digital nomads and northern-European retreat tourism.

What's actually growing

  • English-speaking yoga / pilates with weekly memberships — strong recurring revenue from foreign residents.
  • Recovery and longevity (cryotherapy, IV drips, infrared sauna, red-light) — premium pricing, low staff overhead.
  • Retreat hosting on rural fincas — 5–8 retreats/year at €30–€80k each.
  • Functional medicine / hormone optimisation clinics — high-ticket, high-margin, riding the wellness-medical convergence.
  • Mental health and somatic therapy in English — chronically under-supplied across the province.

Operational notes

Most wellness formats run lean (3–8 staff) and operate under simple activity licences, not the heavier sanitary licences required for clinics. Integrative-health and aesthetic-medicine concepts cross into 'centro sanitario' regulation — substantially more paperwork and sanitary-authority inspection but much higher revenue per square metre.

Memberships, packages and pre-paid blocks of sessions are the margin lever — single drop-ins rarely produce viable unit economics. Top operators run 65–80% of revenue on recurring or pre-paid models.
